6,434 people died in the Kobe Earthquake, among them many of our neighbors and friends. The madness going on right now is of a whole other level, and I can scarcely believe what I'm seeing watching the whole world go to shit. The only bit of solace I can find is in the fact that there are people like my parents who can remain sane, happy, loving, laughing individuals even after having witnessed so much suffering.
